Unbroken, my first Laura Hillenbrand book, is an extremely inspiring novel, fitted with a hero that would make Odysseus blush. It is a well-written biopic into the life of Olympian Louis Zamperini–some readers among you might recognize the name from the 1936 Berlin Olympics, events described accurately in the novel–as he goes from a world-famous long distance runner to a soldier struggling to retain his dignity, and his spirit, as a Japanese prisoner-of-war in the midst of World War II.

It does drag a bit; however, it becomes considerably exciting through the middle half and into the end, as we experience every inhumanity right alongside Louis and his buddies, cheering for those under dogs to prevail one more time; in other words, the perfect story for those in need of a little hope.
